The signs are everwhere. One of my favorite quotes is a Japanese proverb that says "Fall down 7 times, get up 8". A song by Chumbawamba goes "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down..." Pat Benetar says "Hit me with your best shot!" and that old saying "You have to roll with the punches".
So in a boxing match, when you get knocked down, you've got 10 seconds to get back up again before you're counted out. 10 seconds before the match is over, and you're not the winner, which means you're the loser. 10 seconds isn't a very long time to catch your breath, breathe away the pain, try to remain concious and get back on your feet ready for the next punch. Well sometimes it just feels better to lay there for awhile and not get back up.
Have you ever layed on the floor after a long day and just took in the perspective from being as low as you can possibly get? Try it sometimes. You don't get much lower than the floor. Life looks slightly different from down there. I'm all about rolling with the punches. I've rolled with a lot of them lately. I've even dealt a couple lately, which pretty much got me nowhere except back on the floor again, regaining perspective.
So here I am, on the floor and I've got 10 seconds to figure out how on earth to get back up, shake it off and last enough rounds to get me to a better place. I really don't feel up to it and I'd much rather lay here on the floor. The floor is nice, because like I said, it's as low as you can get. In theory.
