This might be long over-due. Either that or completely worthless. I decided to start a blog really because I saw Amy's and it looked really good. Plus I still owe my family pictures and a story about my Mexico trip, and I decided this would be the easiest way to do it. Hopefully Grandma can find her way here.
I just got back from my Basic Firefighter Academy up in Sacramento. Now I know what you all are thinking: I'm starting my fourth year as a firefighter, why on earth would I just now be taking the BASIC academy. Well the short of it is because "before" I was only a temporary employee and they don't like to spend good money on temps. Now I'm full time pretty much (with exceptions, but I won't go into that), so they've decided they can spend a little money on me. I lived in the barracks or "dorms" while I was up there and had an awesome roommate. We were honestly inseparable the entire time we were up there, except for when she went home on weekends. She lives pretty close to Sacramento... I don't.
So anyway, I survived the academy even though at times it was downright painful. I came home with 4 awards. Out of 6 girls (80 people total I want to say?) I got the awards for most chin-ups (4) and the fastest mile and a half (10:44)of the females. Neither of which are very impressive in my own eyes, but I guess it got the job done. I also got most outstanding physical fit female, and next year will get my name on a plaque for it when I graduate the advanced academy. I also, out of the entire class (males and females) got the second highest academic grade... a 99.something. I'm glad to be home though.
On the weekends there, I would go to the gym or wander around town. One weekend, my friend Debbie and her husband Drew met me up in San Francisco (just a short drive away). It was a relief to see old friends after being up there for 3 weeks. One weekend I went to "The Body" exhibition they had going on in Sacramento. They had cadavers that they basically plasticized. Very amazing stuff. If you get a chance to see it (they rotate through a bunch of cities all over the world, do a google search on it) I totally recommend it. They do an especially amazing job with the circulatory system, my personal favorite.
Well that's about all for now, thought I would get this up here to let you all know it's here. Within the next few days I'll get my Mexico trip up, I know some of you never got to hear about it or see the pictures. See you soon!
